I was looking for information about cybercrimes and I came across an interesting article called "Cybercrooks Lure Citizens into International Crime." Here's what I discovered surprisingly:
International criminals posted employment ads on legitimate websites like Monster.com and Careerbuilder.com to hire American citizens. The jobs may seem like legitimate online jobs or working-at-home jobs. The criminals do pay good money to those who accepted the job and willing to collaborate and work for them. The persons who work for the criminals are known as "mules" because they participate in illicit activities in helping the criminals carry out the crimes.
Examples of the crimes committed:
1. The criminals purchase online products with stolen credit cards and have the merchants sent the products to the mules (the persons who accepted the job). They then pay the mules (typically $24 per package) to ship the merchandises to a person oversea. Why oversea? Because it's harder for the FBI to catch the criminals and the merchandises could be resold either online or in underground market.
As you can see, law enforcement can only catch the mules and not the real criminals.
2. The criminals transfer money from stolen credit card accounts to the mules' bank accounts and have them send the money to an oversea person through Western Union or MoneyGram. For example, the criminals would transfer $5,000 of stolen money to the mules' bank accounts and tell them to keep $1,000, and withdraw the $4,000 from their bank accounts to be sent to an oversea person through Western Union or MoneyGram.
Again, if law enforcement looks at this case, the mules are easily identified and gotten arrested. The criminals are free.
During this bad economy, more and more people are falling into these types of criminal's traps. So, it is very important to be very cautious about what you are really getting into. If you look back to the two examples above, who wouldn't want to do the job? Of course, during this bad economy, most people would take the job offered by the criminals because they can actually make real, easy money. But what they don't know is that they are engaging in illegal activities and helping the criminals commit international crimes. I bet it wouldn't be fun for them (mules) having to explain themselves to the FBI when they get caught. So, don't be ignorant and naive.
Avoid getting yourself into the discussed situations above at all cost. If you want a real, legitimate, legal way to make money online or at-home then you owe it to yourself to read on... Click Here!
